Beja: Food poisoning in five centers and schools in the municipality.


Dozens of children transported to Beja Hospital for food poisoning. Vomiting is the main symptom that attacked patients. At stake will be the making of lunch.

At least 35 children and six adults, in Beja, went this Tuesday to the hospital on suspicion of food poisoning. Firefighters sources confirm that they provided assistance and transported some of the affected children, although most of them were taken by their parents to the José Joaquim Fernandes Hospital, in Beja.

In the first information provided to Lidador Notícias (LN), sources said that more than 100 minors had been taken to that hospital unit. However, the Local Health Unit of Baixo Alentejo issued a declaration, through the Press office, to confirm that so far “35 children and six adults, from schools in Beja, and the parishes of São Matias, Trigaches e Beringel” had been admitted to the emergency department.

The supplier of meals for these schools was the Bairro da Esperança Social and Community Center. A ASAE e a Municipal Civil Protection Beja were at the center's facilities.

The councilor of Education and Civil Protection of the municipality of Beja, Arlindo Morais, said that the provision of meals was made to five schools, in total 188 dishes served. Food samples were collected for analysis, being that this wednesday, will be another institution to provide this service in schools.

On leaving the hospital, parents report that the main symptom of food poisoning was vomiting. Children are being medicated orally and intravenously. After screening and passing through the Pediatric ward, minors are being discharged.
