Beja: D. Manuel I School sued for breach of contract.


Rio Tinto company (Gondomar) coffee supplier asks for more than 11.000 euros for breach of contract concluded in 2001 and stopped at 2008.

Aiming to be compensated and compensated for any breach of a coffee supply contract, the company José Maria Vieira, based in Rio Tinto (Gondomar), Torrié brand distributor, filed a lawsuit against Escola Secundária D. Manuel I, in Beja, that by dragging reaches the president of the county council at the time.

At issue is a contract signed in February 2001, in which the educational institution has committed to buy 2.500 kilos of coffee, having received a discount / bonus of 560.196$00, corresponding currency in the current currency to 2.794,25 euros and that second the company was stopped in December 2008.

In the lawsuit filed at the Local Civil Court of the Court of Beja, the Rio Tinto company claims that between the beginning and the termination of the contract to D. Manuel I, just bought 490 kilos of coffee, so it asks for recognition of the termination of the contract and that defendants be ordered to pay 11.090,58 euros.

This requested value, corresponding according to the plaintiff, payment for goods sold which import into 2.794,25 euros and a compensation of 8.296,33 euros, which is subject to appeal by the two defendants.

The Lidador News (LN) requested clarification on the situation from the direction of D. Manuel I and from the Grouping and School Nº2, Beja, the institutions having not answered the questions asked. In turn, the Regional Education delegate, Maria João Charrua, disclaimed any information, justifying "that it should be requested from the Minister of Education".
