From the next day 1 June, the border between Barrancos and Encinasola (Spain) going to open two days a week, at two different times in the morning and in the afternoon.

Por despacho conjunto dos Ministros dos Negócios Estrangeiros, Augusto Santos Silva and Internal Administration, Eduardo Cabrita, foi publicado um despacho que entra em vigor às 00h00 de 1 June 2020 and that allows to open the border of Barrancos, EN258, km 105,5, connecting to HU-9101, and which is an authorized crossing point at the land border, on Mondays and Thursdays, the 06:00 am to 08:00 hours and 17:00 am to 19:00 hours.

In the document it is mentioned that “these measures were agreed between the Government of the Portuguese Republic and the Government of the Kingdom of Spain”, justifying that besides Barrancos there are two other borders “are decentralized, there are residents in Portuguese towns and residents in Spain who move between the two countries frequently”.

The order summarizes the reasons that led to this decision and that “by the peculiar characteristics of the aforementioned localities and under pain of causing constraints to the essential activities of the local population, the total cut of access roads does not seem to be the most appropriate modality, terms justified, exceptionally and for short periods of time, authorize passage on the land border”.
