Opinion (Rogério COPETO / Official GNR): ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

Tomorrow, day 17 May, marks the "World Day of Telecommunications and Information Society", whose goal is to help raise awareness about the possibilities of using the Internet and other Information and Communication Technologies (TIC) to society and the economy, and reduce the digital divide between people.

Rogério COPETO

Lieutenant Colonel of the GNR

Master in Law and Security and Homeland Security Auditor

Head of the Education Division / Command Doctrine and Training

On Internet, I have already had the opportunity to address the issue several times, By consider it important to warn all a younger population, beginning early surfing the Internet, exposing themselves too much to its dangers, no sense of the possible consequences of the misuse, with the aggravating circumstance of adults do not yet possess the necessary knowledge, for proper supervision of children and adolescents.

So in the context of cybercrime, We have already approached various topics, such as those "Online predators” e a “Cyberbullying and social networks", with the main objective to alert adults to the need to promote proper safety education on the Internet, shall establish rules, accompany children and young people, be aware of the signs and tell authorities where the facts can typify a type of crime, whose physical and psychological trauma consequences, than later or never be exceeded and that only prevention can avoid.

But the subject of this article will not be on the Internet, but on Artificial Intelligence (HE), (topic that has been discussed here in the LN Telechronics of 17 November 2016), because the specialized UN agency for ICT, called ITU dedicated the "World Day of Telecommunications and Information Society" this year, the theme "Enabling the positive use of Artificial Intelligence for All".

It is common knowledge, that in recent years there has been significant progress in AI technology, made possible by huge advances, particularly in the areas of Big Data, Machine Learning, CComputing Power, Storage Capacity and Cloud Computing.

Perhaps these new technologies based on the IA that are emerging, They are unknown to most people, as they are unknown to me, but constitute as key tools and applications, used to help people have a better quality of life, contributing to the improvement of health services, On education, in transport and a wide range of other public and private services.

As mentioned foreign words and despite the aforesaid say nothing in, everyone has heard of the SIRI Aple, or robot Sophia, that goes into our homes daily, owing to the publicity to a telecom operator, or autonomous vehicles, or the multitude of applications we have on smartphones and using the infamous algorithms, gathering information about us, getting to know our habits, what we eat and drink, and where, our tastes and interests, whose technologies have known better and so, we realize that something is happening in the area of AI.

But as with everything in life is not only benefits, there are also some risks in using these applications we enjoy, because abdicate part of our privacy and data that identify us, resulting in the use of such data for the benefit of interests not always clear and transparent.

An example of the use of such data less clear, so-called Big Data (information about what we do, online e offline, like shopping we do with our cards, Google searches, places where we, likes on social networks, especially not Facebook, etc), He has been responsible for the election of US President, Donald Trump and outlet of the United Kingdom of the European Union, the call Brexi.

These consequences of the use are well known IA, because it was made the complaint that the company Cambridge Analytica, stole data 50 millions of US voters on Facebook, having so Mark Zuckerberg changed all the privacy policy of Facebook and been called before the US Congress, to explain how this was possible.

But there are other risks, and are not science fiction, because today we are already developing autonomous weapons and automation of work is increasing, replacing people by increasingly intelligent machines.

From the foregoing it can be seen that AI is having an increasing impact on the lives of people, and that the power and potential of IA are being explored and developed, the unprecedented speed, bringing many opportunities that will change our economy and our society, but also challenges, including security point of view.

So, security point of view, the future not only presents opportunities in the implementation of AI technology, but also the need of the existence of control measures for future applications, so that the software will behave according to your schedule, not exceeding their limits, and they should also be resistant to cyber attacks.

In addition there are the ethical and legal issues, should be considered, such as the identification of who takes responsibility for the actions of an autonomous or intelligent machine, and in the case of vehicles without drivers, who takes responsibility for road accidents that have been caused by such vehicles?

We ended, concluding that there is no doubt that the IA is already a little in everything we do, however it is unclear who controls who, and this is the greatest danger.
